What we do
The Going Rate tracks what everyday life costs in Dubai and Abu Dhabi: fuel, groceries, rent, property, schools, pets, travel and weekends. It is written for expat families who want clear numbers without the noise.
Where the numbers come from
Every figure links to its source. We use official announcements first, then established research firms, as reported by major UAE media.
- Fuel: the UAE Fuel Price Committee, announced on the last day of each month.
- Inflation: the Dubai Data and Statistics Establishment and the Statistics Centre Abu Dhabi.
- Schools: KHDA in Dubai and ADEK in Abu Dhabi.
- Rents and property: official rent rules from Dubai Land Department and ADREC; market data from CBRE, Colliers, Cavendish Maxwell and REIDIN.
- Everyday prices, pets and travel: published price lists and offers from the providers themselves.
How we report
- We report published figures as they are, with the date and the source.
- Where two sources measure the same thing differently, we show both.
- We keep to prices and practical information, and stay out of politics.
Corrections
